Recuerdos de la Alhambra (live concert)
Ein Sommernachtstraum (“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”) is a musical work written by the composer Felix Mendelssohn, based on the same-named play written by the English playwright William Shakespeare. In a special combination of saxophone quartet and piano, the Alliage Quintet plays the piece with the sound illusion of an orchestra.
The ensemble was founded by Daniel Gauthier and Jang Eun Bae. Gauthier was by the time the first professor of classical saxophone at the Cologne University of Music. The other members of the quintet are Simon Hanrath, Sebastian Pottmeier and Miguel Vallés Mateu. Alliage’s CDs “Una voce poco fa” (2005) and “Spirito latino” (2006) have received the German music award “ECHO Klassik“.
Acting guest Markus Fennert transforms himself into several characters of Shakespeare’s compositions. He has played roles on stages like Munich, Basel, Zurich, Berlin and in film and television productions. He is an audio drama actor and has also recorded radio plays for the Weimar Bauhaus University.
Fennert and the Alliage Quinttet performed “A Midsummer Night’s Dream“ in the city hall of Kleve in June 2019 and Sarume accompanied them from the camera point of view.
